The “Cold Blooded” syndicate has taken over the Island, sealing away new Exotic weapons in highly guarded vaults. Embark on the ultimate heist, take these weapons for yourself, and become the most notorious squad during Fortnite Most Wanted.

MY ROLE.png

I worked as UX Designer for the event, and designed the Event screen while working closely with the UI Artists, Tech Designer, and UI Engineer.

Started the project with ideation and after multiple iterations and user testing we shipped with the screen below.

IDEATION.png

I started by blocking out the important sections of the screen and tried different layouts with a focus on maintaining a visual hierarchy of information.

From there I started to do mocks with placeholder assets. The focus at this point was aligning with the gameplay/narrative focus of the event which is why it was important to show characters and rewards.

The desired narrative focus was on two factions fighting against each other so I wanted the screen to have a feeling of tension between the two groups.

EVENT SHOP.png

The initial design included a new currency that could be earned during the event. That currency could then be used as an alternate way to purchase event specific outfits in the Item Shop.

Linked Shop Tiles.png

There was an idea to have a button in the shop that would open the Event Screen. I took it a step further and designed a new tile that could be used for any tile that links to a separate page.

Introducing a new currency meant we needed to show the new purchase option on the item tiles.

EVENT SCREEN DESIGN.png

The final event design was to be based on a heist against a single faction. The core requirements of the screen were to show a reward track, a reward earned through collectibles, and a link to an Item Shop offer.

Currency Counter.png

I came up with this design for the currency counter that displays multiple things related to the currency that fills the progress bar at the bottom.

  1. Shows your current currency amount

  2. Shows the amount of currency needed for the next/focused reward

  3. Shows the name of the next/focused reward

Collectible reward.png

I worked with the UI Artist and the Render team to make it so the collectible reward was part of the main outfit’s render, saving space and also building a stronger connection between the two items.

Item Shop Offer.png

Two new cosmetics were planned to release alongside this event. I came up with the idea to have a link to the Item Shop from the event page so that players would not miss seeing event related content.

Due to technical issues with the outfits, this section of the event screen was disabled before release.
